Tenth!DoctorxReader - In the Background (1/2) [Valentine's Day special]
Setting: Probably after Donna? But can honestly be any time.
Contains: Possible confusion for you to read, I'm writing this differently then my other stories. You'll find out how once you do. Is explained in the description. Otherwise, contains nothing else.
Oh Valentine's Day, the day where couple's would get together and do something cute. Or when someone confuses to their crush and either get rejected or a new couple forms. I didn't like it that much. I've been single, for a rather very long time. Actually, I've never had a boyfriend. I'm only 22 though, so I'm still young.
I would often sit in this cafe, doing my school work near the window. It was kinda nice in that little spot. It was always my spot. I could look over the cafe and take in everything. I would learn how to read body language and how one person's relationship is with the other. If they're together, friends, or family. I wouldn't really dress to impress whenever I came here. My long brown hair would be set up in a messy bun. My glasses helping out my honey brown eyes, my tanktop (or sweater of it's cold), and leggings. Along with my tennis shoes.
The day was Valentine's day. Almost every couple would come visit this cafe. It was very nice for dates. But for some reason, there was just this one couple that stuck out the most. Ever since I started coming here, which was when I started college (18 Years old), there was always this couple that came. They seemed like they never aged. The man would always wear something similar. A blue suit and a beige trenchcoat along with converse. He always had that spikey hair, it was kinda cute. I would totally go for him, but the (H/c) girl was most likely with him. She always wore something nice and cute. Or this one year, she just really didn't give a crap.
I was sitting at my spot just drinking a cup of tea with an earbud in one ear as I looked out the window. There was light snow, but it wasn't too bad. This light snow was actually kind of romantic for those couples. I saw the Couple walk past. They were laughing together and holding hands. Spike (as I called him) opened up the door for the girl (never got a nickname for her). The door's bell rang.
"Are you serious, Doctor?" the (h/c) haired girl asked him as she laughed. She took off her coat and hung it on the coat hanger that was by the door.
"Welcome!" One of the waiter's called over to the duo. The Doctor, as he was called, looked at him, smiled and nodded in acknowledgement.
"I am, I really am quite serious, (Y/n)." The Doctor laughed along. "It was quite strange actually..." He looked off a bit and raised an eyebrow. Probably thinking about whatever they were talking about. The waiter, his name was Calvin (I basically knew all of the people who worked here), walked up to them and gave them an apologetic smile. I walked up towards them to refill my mug of tea.
"Hello! I'm sorry to say but it seems as there is no more open tables... So unless..." Calvin sort of trailed off. I basically heard what he said as I walked past. I looked up at the three of them. Should I? Should I not... I guess I should.
"Hey Calvin, they can sit with me, it's all cool." I smiled at the couple.
"Ahh, thank you so much!" (Y/n) smiled back at me.
Calvin reached over to my mug, "Alright, cool! I'll get you that refill myself." He took the mug out of my hands and went over to the kitchen and whatnot.
"We always came here on Valentine's day, although you would know, wouldn't you?" The Doctor asked as we walked back to my spot. I didn't have any work today so it was all clear. "You've always came to this cafe, yet we still don't know your name... Oh! How rude, I'm the Doctor!" I cocked an eyebrow but didn't question anything.
"I'm (Y/n), (Y/n) (L/n)." The two put their hand out for me to shake, which I gladly did.
I took a seat at my spot, they sat across from me. "I'm Amethyst, nice to meet you both." By this time, Calvin was able to give me back my tea. The Doctor and (Y/n) decided to order then. The Doctor got a cup of tea and she got a cup of (drink).
"I feel like I've seen you somewhere, well besides from this cafe," The Doctor said to me. He gave me that squinty eye look. That one where you try to stare at something/one to see if you can somehow figure it out and whatnot. "You haven't been to Vietnam, have you?" I looked at curiously and shook my head.
"Been here in the States all my life. Couldn't have been in Vietnam." I answered him.
(Y/n) clapped her hands and smiled, "Well, you are always in this cafe aren't you?" I nodded. She's figuring it out, great! Aha... "I remember you, I would always see you here at this table every time the Doctor and I were here. It feels like last week when I last saw you." The Doctor gave her a look and she shrugged at him.
'(Y/n), no. We can't give away that we time travel.'
'Doctor, I highly doubt she can figure that out, come on. It's time travel, most people think it's impossible!'
"Well, it was a year ago..." I commented. I held my cup of tea with both of my hands and took a sip. The steam coming from my tea immediately fogged up my glasses. I groaned and rolled my eyes (not that [Y/n] or the Doctor could see it). I took off my glasses to wipe off the steam. From what I could see, which was blurry, the Doctor and (Y/n) was slightly laughing at my fogged up glasses.
As the conversation started to pick up, going from acquaintances to friends who had known each other for possibly forever. Often times, they would tell me stories of what had happened here in this cafe, which I had already had known due to the fact I kinda always observed people...
I remember the first time I saw them here in this cafe...
This Valentine's day was a nice sunny day with a bit of clouds. It was still rather cold, but not cold enough you needed two jackets and a scarf. Maybe just one jacket was enough. I was sitting down at my usual table, doing homework a freshman in college would be doing. All my friends were out with their boyfriends while I just decided to stay here in the cafe.
The waitress, Michelle, came over to hand me the cup of tea I ordered. It was still early in the day, so there wasn't too much people here. People mostly came in the evening. I would imagine most couple's would come to this cafe later in the evening. So throughout the day, I worked on my essay.
By the time I finished my all of my homework, it was already around 6 o'clock. The sun was just about to set so the sky was quite beautiful. The bell on the door rang and I looked up from closing my computer. In came two people I have never seen before. There was a man with quite messy hair and a (h/c) hair girl.
"I'm surprised," (Y/n) looked up at the Doctor as they went to go find themself a seat.
"Hmm?" The Doctor responded as he smiled at her. The Doctor pulled out the chair for her to sit down then went to go sit on ther other side.
"Well, you didn't take me to some other planet or a dangerous place for Valentine's Day." (Y/n) clasped her hands together and rested her chin upon her hands. The Doctor shrugged. Michelle came over to them to get their orders then walked away.
"I dunno, I suppose I actually wanted to calm things down. Have a normal regular day." The Doctor explained. "I guess, like how you humans have boring days, their exciting days are when they have days like our normal days. And our normal days are saving planets! And our exciting days.... Well, it could be days like today." (Y/n) smiled at the clever (as he calls himself) man then looked over in my direction. I realized I had been staring at them for quite some time (seeing as they were pretty adorable) now, so I quickly looked out the window to watch the sun about set. Of course, I head nothing of what they said, they were too far for me to hear.
They probably stayed in here for 30 more minutes, talking and laughing. By the time I was ready to leave, they were about to leave too. I grabbed my jacket from the my spot and walked out the door. I started walking back to my dorm when I stopped to look at the sunset once more. The couple walked past me and they too stopped to look at the sunset. I didn't notice how class the Doctor was, so when I turned around to continue walking I had bumped into him.
"Sorry!" I called back at them as I continued walking at a surprisingly fast pace.
"It's quite alright!" He called after me. I looked back.
The Doctor was rather close to (Y/n). Probably only a few inches apart. That was when the Doctor leaned down to kiss her.
"It was our first kiss we shared." (Y/n) told me as she smiled up at the Doctor.
"Yup, yeah it was..." The Doctor said. I sat there awkwardly since they were both kind of just... Staring at each other. Nothing much I could really say or do.
(Y/n) then looked over at me, "DId I ever tell you that time where I decided to just dress up like I just got out of bed and came here?"
I shook my head, but I already knew it.
The same couple came around once again during Valentine's day. I was probably around 20 by this time. I don't remember much from this Valentine's but once part I do remember was what happened between the couple.
Spike and the (h/c) girl walked into the cafe. Although, the guy seemed a bit... Off. Probably from the girl. Her hair was a slight mess, but put into a bun. And she just had on sweats and a huge shirt over it. The guy seemed to be wearing the same thing as usual (and from on here, I'll be call them by their proper names).
"Couldn't you dress a bit more," The Doctor trailed off a bit, "decent?" They went over to a small table and once again ordered the same thing they've ordered the past two years.
"Well Doctor," (Y/n) said, "shouldn't you love me for me?" She stuck her tongue out at him.
"Well, yes. I do love you." He said. "It's just that this is a date!"
This had gone on for a while until the Doctor gave up on her and just proceeded with the date like normal. It was cute though. Very cute.
"Ah, well. Look at that!" The Doctor exclaimed. He looked at his watch then outside, "It's already 6:26!"
"Right!" (Y/n) replied. "We should be off! See ya another time Amethyst." The two smiled at me and then grabbed their jackets and went off. It had started to snow lightly outside and so (Y/n) grabbed some snow and put it into a ball. The Doctor walked on ahead from her and when he turned around to call for her she threw it at him. The Doctor chased after her and the two went to go to wherever they were supposed to.

You always did hear strang voices from there. When Amy finished she looked at you. "(y/n)...for the thousandth time call me Amy.", Amy said smiling. "Awww but I like your real name", You teased. You were rudely awakened by Sherlock stealing your blankets and pretty much yanking you out of bed, causing you to vehemently protest, “Leave me be, Sherly… I’m sleeping in.”

Knowing exactly what he was trying to do, you went limp, forcing him to hold your entire weight, “I don’t care about jet lag right now. I just wanna sleep.”
He very unceremoniously let you fall and you contently curled up to go back to sleep on the floor, causing him to give a soft growl. You thought for a moment you were going to get away with that little stunt before he deceptively hummed

I'm a fucking asshole. Sorry guys, I suck I suck I suck and I suck. So, I'm planning to pull an allnighter to finish up the other two stories in my stash. Then finish the second part. And then start the second chapters. But of couse I procrastinate. Hope you guys had a wonderful valentine! I had no Valentine ;A; whatever. haha.
So I had was out with some friends and then I was kinda tired so I didn't take part of the conversations. So I just sat back and watched everything play out, talking and laughing here and there. But as I was, I noticed the relationship between some of them (some of them were together or had a crush on the other or something) growing more and more. So I wondered, what if I wrote a reader insert but told in my point of view? Also, I walked past a couple where the girl was just about to break up with the guy... #awkwardmoment Of course, my name isn't actually Amethyst. I would love the name Amethyst... Although in this I wear glasses, I don't usually wear glasses haha. And at home I dress basically like I do in the story. Huehue.
